A Wilmington playground is renovated in time for area children to enjoy it this summer.
It’s located at Brown Burton Winchester Park near the intersection of 23rd and North Locust Streets. On Friday, Mayor Mike Purzycki joined 3rd District Council Member Zanthia Oliver, Council President Hanifa Shabazz and Council Member Ciro Adams to officially dedicate the park.
According to officials renovation work totaled $375,000 thanks to money secured through the City’s Parks and Recreation Capital Budget.
Some of the changes park goers will notice range from the colorful new jungle gym equipment to an upgraded basketball court and player benches. There were also picnic tables installed and new sidewalks paved near the site.
“This new playground area is another in a series of new parks projects announced recently by the City which includes the City’s partnership with West Side Grows Together on renovations at parks at 4th and Rodney Streets and 3rd and Connell Streets,” written in a press release. “Those projects are scheduled to be complete during the summer.”
At the event, Oliver noted that former Council Member Darius Brown spear headed renovation work during his time in office.
