Five Types of Social Play: Parallel Play

In this type of play, two or more children will be playing next to but not necessarily with each other. They will each be engaged in their own activity though they may play on the same equipment. As they play they may watch each other and talk to each other while playing independently. Parallel play is thought to be a bridge between solitary and social play. It can help children to learn to play with confidence near and around others, which can be a help to children with behavioral disorders. If you’d like to add pieces which will facilitate parallel play to your space, let us know. We’d be happy to help!
