Five Types of Social Play: Onlooker Play

Onlooker play occurs when a child watches others at play while not engaging in it. Children will engage in conversation about the activity, encouraging or commenting, without actually playing at the activity. Grouping similar activities together helps to encourage onlooker play. This gives younger children a chance to observe how more experienced players use the activity, which will help them to learn to enhance their abilities and develop skills for when they feel comfortable trying the activity on their own. We have many varieties of climbers, an excellent group for onlooker play. Our rocks and ropes pieces also lend themselves well to this type of play. Why not contact us? We’d love to help you refresh your playground collection!
